Place Masséna

d

The place Masséna and the figures of Jaume Plensa light up on night to give an artistic atmosphere to the place…

The seven characters of « Conversation à Nice » (“Talk in Nice”) by the catalan artist Jaume Plensa, are at the top of steel mast reaching ten meters. They represent the seven continents and “a metaphor on the relationship between the different communities which are part of the society” the artist says. Lightened from inside with cinetic light, the seven artworks go through different colors, establishing a talk between the characters it selves and the walker.

The positioning of the artworks follows the tramway line. So, it offers a new interpretation for the moving traveler who can observe the characters as landmarks: “Such as lighthouses on the coast, the characters seem to stay by our side, to protect us from above. Without disturbing the emptiness of the place, they invite us to look up and to rediscover the sky of the city as well” Jaume Plensa add.
