Trailer on Vimeo : L’adieu.
The voice of Kathleen Ferrier, radiant of compassion, vibrating, singing the song of earth AND grace, the happiness of Cyd Charysse, of Fred Astaire, of Ginger Rogers, of Gene Kelly, of Eleanor Powell, and others… The romantic music of Gustav Mahler AND American musicals… In short: « the coupling » of two « viennoiseries », one strong and serious, the other one very sweet. Both elegant and controlled. AND, on top of that, the thing that gathers: The Waltz.
A video which lasts 29 minutes. Produced in 2001. Lodeveans collection (Stuart Evans)
Yves Caro has quite a large practice, going from painting to installations and graphics. Since a few years the video medium has taken a large part in his work. To talk about this, some sequences of an article of Jérôme Durand in 2002 : In a small room of the Iconoscope, sequences of American musicals are projected, accompanied with music from the sixth movement of The Song of the Earth by Gustave Mahler. /…/ We are in a contradiction, doubting between the lightness of the images and the power of The Song of the Earth, romantic strength which places the being in its problematic existence. This feeling is quickly perceived, so the evocation of those musicals seems to be like an historical document and eternally behind us… like if today, it would have been time to reconsider the authenticity of our life and our loves, far away from artifices.
